The land
LOCATION AND CHARACTERISTICS OF THE VINEYARDS
De Riz cellar covers about 18 hectares, divided into plots located in different areas of the land with specific characteristics per each one.
The historical vineyard, surrounding the cellar, is on a flat land with a 360° degrees sun exposure, that increase the perfect grape maturation. The soil is rich in caranto, a paleosoil composed of loamy clay extremely compact and impermeable, that gives to wines a good body and a strong freshness. All our vineyards of the hills have different slopes and soils are mainly clayey made up of glacial-marine deposits.
The vineyards on the flat land of Piave river are by stony and sandy soils, giving to the wines freshness and a good savory taste despite a light body.
Harvest and winemaking
Most of grapes are harvested by hand, the cluster is pressed entire to maintain all the originals elements of grapes. Then it follows a careful and severe winemaking, respecting correct times between one processing and the other.
Vineyards running
You choose mechanical under-vine ploughing to improve the fertility and oxygenation in the soil, without any use of chemical weed control. Irrigation is allowed only during periods of drought, and for that, you use a drop irrigation system, which hydrate the vine deeply limiting the evaporation and the quantity of used water.
From vine to vine
A cyclic system in which man lives in perfect harmony with the surrounding environment and with respect to it, it gives back the same active substances it needs for its regeneration. The branches of vine are trimmed and left on the soil and grape marcs, after wine making process, become an organic fertilizer.
Ecosustainability
You follow the procedures laid down in the wine environmental Protocol which is conform to high eco-sustainable standards. The vineyards obtain every year the SQNPI certification, a national quality system to enhance the vine and soil management in order to protect the environment and the human health.
Behind each Vine
The glera grape and other grape varieties
De Riz production has been always focused on glera grape cultivation but in the last years you choose to enhance other grape varieties, native and more: Chardonnay and Pinot Gris for white wines; Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for red wines; Manzoni Moscato 13.0.25 and Raboso for rosé.
Taking care is a key factor both into the vineyards job and in every single wine making phases into De Riz cellar. De Riz philosophy approaches the "waiting culture" that is based both on the natural life circle of vine tree and on aging and wine production, to offer an excellent product of quality.
